Minimusic was developed by 1997, and after two years of testing, was available for teachers nation wide in August of 1999. All who have purchased have enjoyed using the Minimusic course with their young students!

Do I need to take a training course in order to be certified to teach Minimusic?
No. A good understanding of the basic music theory concepts for pre-reading music is all you need. Experience with this age group is also helpful!

What is the best size group of children to teach Minimusic?
Smaller groups of 5 to 6 children work best, simply because with this age child, there is a lot of activity going on. If you are in a day care or school situation with larger groups, you may want to consider an assistant.

Which age group is best for the Minimusic course?
The Minimusic course was designed to teach ages 4-6. We suggest putting ages 4-5 together and ages 5-6 together.

What theory concepts are taught?
Note value recognition from two-eighth notes to whole notes, rhythm and beat, counting and clapping any combination of the note values learned, white key names, basic music symbols, line / space note recognition, basic pitch, direction of reading, intervals up to a 5th, musical alphabet, as well as familiarity with many instruments and their families.

What level of instruction do I begin the students once they have completed the Minimusic course?
The students will begin on a primer level. You will find that they will move very quickly as they have a solid understanding of the basic theory concepts.

Can I copy the flash cards if more are necessary?
Yes. Minimusic Instructors who have purchased the program may reproduce the flash cards and bingo games for teaching purposes in their classes. The master flash cards, bingo games, etc., are located in the back of the teachers manual.

How long does the Minimusic course last?
The course consists of 34 one hour lessons, which typically take nine months to teach, if taught once a week.

Do the students need to purchase materials for the class?
No. A 3-ring binder works well to store their student worksheets. The Minimusic Tote Bag and T-Shirt are optional and are available on line. These items are generally covered by the student registration fee.

How large a room is required to teach Minimusic?
Minimum space would be a room 15’ x 15’. Although the students use movement during each lesson, it is controlled and easy to manage in a small space.

Is a piano or other instrument required to teach the course?
No. Although any musical instrument adds interest, it is not required.

How does Minimusic differ from other children’s music courses available to the public?
There are no levels in Minimusic. It is a nine month course which focuses on basic music theory taught in an age appropriate manner. Minimusic is compatible to most young children’s music programs.
